January 19, 2009 – Miami Beach, Florida, USA – Following a $1 billion renovation and expansion by Turnberry Ltd., Fontainebleau Miami Beach has reopened. Originally conceived by Morris Lapidus in 1954, Fontainebleau is regarded as the most significant building of Lapidus’ career. Lapidus once wrote: “If you create a stage and it is grand, everyone who enters will play their part.” The 22- acre landmark property has been completely redesigned and expanded to include four luxury towers – Chateau, Versailles, Trésor, and Sorrento – totaling over 1,500 rooms, suites, and penthouses. In short, Fontainebleau is once again the grandest of stages.
At the epicenter of the resort distinctly sits the all new, two-level, 40,000-square-foot Lapis Spa. Inspiri Wellness was selected to lead the way in the creation of the breathtaking 5,800-square-foot fitness center which overlooks the freeform bowtie pool, Ocean Lawn, and Atlantic Ocean. The primary objectives of Eileen and Scott Lenz of Inspiri was to unveil a welcoming and inspiring environment that meets the fitness needs of what will in all likelihood be an incredibly diverse Fontainebleau guest demographic, while simultaneously leaving a lasting impression with regard to the marriage of function and beauty. As the resort prides itself on being as technologically advanced as any in the world, this element required blending into the gym in such a way that was both non-intimidating and enriching to the user experience. To close the attention to detail circle, custom finishes adorn the equipment, highlighted by the inclusion of property’s insignia artwork.
By all accounts thus far, Inspiri’s goals have been realized. Feedback received during the pre-opening Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, along with that from grand opening guests and the University of Oklahoma football team (which called Fontainebleau home during their stay in Miami for the BCS National Championship Game) has been glowing.
