October 30, 2012 – New York, New York, USA – Designed by Frank Gehry, with fitness-specific contributions from Inspiri Wellness, LaPalestra at The Plaza represents the LaPalestra’s first public-access brand extension since the company’s debut of its original Center For Preventative Medicine within the Hotel Des Artistes in 1994. The striking, split level, 9,000-square-foot health and fitness center is open to hotel guests on the upper level and in the sub-cellar below (once the storage room for the property’s coal in a bygone era) is a members-only gym. Throughout this unmistakably classic gymnasium are beautiful architectural reminders such as weathered steel columns and the brick wall of a former subway tunnel that pay tribute to the historical voyage of the famed 105-year-old Plaza Hotel.
For this holistic haven of wellness, Inspiri selected only the highest quality of fitness components, ranging from Woodway treadmills to custom Uesaka dumbbells and Atlantis strength equipment. This is the one unmistakable constant in all Inspiri design projects: The selection and integration of the finest training tools to compliment the single most important element in fitness and wellness – the human body. Another traditional Inspiri signature is the careful consideration given to the placement of equipment for purposes of creating an optimal environment blending privacy and performance. Through the use of cardiovascular equipment and dumbbell/ medicine ball storage racks, as well as attention paid to space and lighting, this has been artfully accomplished. The gym can be visited Monday through Friday, from 6:00am to 10:00pm; weekend hours are 7:00am to 8:00pm.
The Plaza Hotel in New York City is jointly owned by Sahara Group and Kingdom Holdings, a Saudia Arabia based corporation. It is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park South, and is managed by Fairmount Hotels & Resorts. One of America’s most celebrated hotels, it was once said, “Nothing unimportant ever happens at The Plaza.” Accorded landmark status by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1969, The Plaza was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
